




CARTAGENA
Cartagena is a coastal town facing the Caribbean Sea to its north and west. South of the city the Cartagena Bay, with its two entrances: Bocachica (Small Mouth) and Bocagrande (Big Mouth). Cartagena features a tropical, dry climate which tends to be hot and windy. The rainy seasons are in April/May and October/November.
El Rosario Islands
The Coral Islands of Rosario are located 42km southeast of Cartagena, and are one of the 46 Natural National Parks of Colombia, created in order to protect one of the most important coral reefs of the Colombian Caribbean coast. The extension of the archipelago measures 120.000 ha, and offers beautiful coral reefs for diving and snorkeling. Its area was declared Natural National Park to preserve and protect the coral reefs and the associated ecosystems.
TRAVEL TIMES
The Gold Museum offers a vast gold-pre-Colombian exhibition of treasures of the Indigenous cultures from the time of the Spanish Colonist. It contains the finest artwork of the Zenú culture, ancient inhabitants of the Colombian costal region.
This museum offers permanent exhibitions related to the Naval Military History of Cartagena de Indias, Universal Navigation and the Colombian Navy.
The Museum of Modern Arts offers permanent exhibi- tions with temporary art. Its collection of art has been initiated by a grant from the OAS.Old City
The Downtown area of Cartagena is famous for its mainly colonial mixed with republican and Italian style buildings, such as the Cathedral’s bell tower. The neighborhood is loaded with historical buildings, palaces, churches and plazas dating back till the 16th century. Straying around the colonial downtown tourists are being taken on a trip down memory lane to the times of the colonies, inquisition and piracy.
Bocagrande
Originally constructed for foreign oil workers, Bocagrande consists mostly the land acquired through land reclamation, is now considered the city’s most popular area for tourists with many hotels, shops, restaurants, nightclubs and art galleries. Its particular appeal is in the beaches and nightlife around Avenida San Martín (Saint Martin Avenue), the backbone of the area. On the bay side of the peninsula of Boca Grande is a spectacular seawalk.
Fort San Felipe
The Castillo San Felipe de Barajas is a military fortress in the city of Cartagena de Indias built by the Spanish during the colonial period. It was the largest of the Spanish forts built in the Americas. Uncover the secrets of this fortress and learn what it meant to live in colonial times.
